Quantitative Research Methods

A three-daytraining workshop on quantitative research methods was held on July 6, 7, and 9, 2013 at the Lecture Gallery 3 at IUB campus. Dr. Mahbub Alam, Head, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) inaugurated the training organized by the Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR) at IUB. Thirty two people, including faculty members, staffs and graduate students participated in the training.

The training was conducted by Dr. Shafiq Rahman, Associate Professor, Chadron State College, Nebraska, USA. Dr. Rahman has extensive expertise on Quantitative and Qualitative methods. His ethnography of the Bangladeshi Diaspora in the United States was published in 2011 that received the 2011-2012 Asian/Pacific American Librarian Association’s honor award.The chair of the inauguration ceremony Ms. Sharmeen Ahmed, the Alternate SPM, CSSR and Senior Lecturer of SLASS welcomed the participants and showed her interest to organize more programs based on the need of the students, staffs and faculty members of IUB and other academic institutions in order to promote research and knowledge. The inauguration ceremony was presented by Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk, Lecturer, SLASS and Researcher at CSSR.

The closing ceremony of the workshop took place on Tuesday, 9 June, 2013 at the lecturer gallery 3. Dr. Mahbub Alam delivered his vote of thanks and later awarded certificates among the participants who successfully completed the workshop.

The training was funded by the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) (CP2280) of University Grants Commission, Bangladesh. The event was organized by Ms. Sharmeen Ahmed, Ms. Sifat-E-Azam, Senior Lecturer of SLASS and Associate SPM of CSSR, Mr. Obydullah Al Marjuk and Mr. Sheikh Farid, Office Manager of CSSR in coordination with IUB staff.
